Schools launches Big BBQ project

PUPILS from William Beamont High School kicked off the Warrington Big BBQ project by planning and delivering a fine feast of healthy food for some very special visitors from Belarus.
The Princes Trust XL group and The Good Life Girls group from the school spent four weeks planning the event and turned their classroom into a restaurant for their guests.
The young people from Belarus visited the school as part of a four week trip organised by Chernobyl Children’s Life Line. The visit aims to give the children a boost to their lives following the fallout from the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster which is still having a huge impact upon the lives of many today.
The pupils from William Beamont gave their visitors a warm Warrington welcome and used the council’s BBQ pack to ensure they provided a safe and healthy feast for them. Warrington Wolves’ mascot Wolfie and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, both partners in the Big BBQ project, also popped along.
Councillor David Keane, the borough council’s executive member for environment and public protection said: “It’s fantastic that the students at William Beamont High School put on such a welcoming and enjoyable event for their special visitors from Belarus. Everyone really enjoyed the healthy feast the pupils prepared and I hope the children from Belarus enjoy the rest of their stay here in Warrington.”
