VILLAGERS have been left shocked and horrified by a large amount of fly-tipping in broad daylight on a country lane at Winwick, Warrington, this afternoon, Tuesday.

Various household items include a fridge freezer, sofa and TV stand were dumped in the middle of Hermitage Green Lane, Winwick, blocking the road sometime between 3.55pm and 5pm.

Bob Towers from the Winwick Litter Network reported the incident to Warrington Borough Council and described it as the “Worst fly-tipping I’ve seen in three years.”
He added: “A great response from the guys at Warrington Borough Council. The fly-tipping has now been analysed / evidence collected / first vehicle has been filled and a tipper truck is en route – all by 6.15pm. People moan about our Council, but this rapid reponse has been first class. Bear in mind this mass of the fly tipping – which blocked the road – didn’t occur until after 3.55pm.

One angry resident said: “Appalling! Someone has paid for that to be disposed of legally and I expect someone has taken the money, run and dumped it!”
Another said: “Unbelievable ! What is wrong with some people!”
A resident of Hermitage Green said:”I’m absolutely appalled at the huge amount of waste that was recklessly dumped on Hermitage Green Lane today. There must be nearly a tonne of household waste including sofas, chairs and building materials.
“The audacity of these selfish, awful people to flytip so much rubbish in broad daylight (around 1630) on a residential road that sits within a historic battlefield is utterly utterly appalling.
“Thank you to the WBC flytipping team and the Winwick Litter network for reacting so quickly and clearing up as much as possible in such a short time.
“I do hope the many cameras along the road picked up the offenders and WBC impose a massive fine.”

Fly-tipping is illegal and can be reported to the council HERE

Plan for a joint approach to tackle fly-tipping
