A MAN has been arrested following reports of an attempted abduction of a teenage woman walking along Winwick Road, Warrington during the early hours of Saturday.
Detectives investigating reports of the attempted abduction arrested a man in connection with the incident at around 9.30pm, yestreday when officers conducted a warrant at an address on Thelwall Lane.
The man remains in custody at this time where he is helping officers with their enquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Clare Coleman, of Northern CID, said: “I understand the concern that this incident is likely to have caused and I hope that this arrest provides reassurance for the local community.
“I am aware that there have been a lot of rumours social media in relation to this incident and I would urge people not to speculate. The man we have arrested resides in the Warrington area and is not an asylum seeker as has been suggested online.”
The alleged incident happened at around 3.10 am on Saturday, 29 July, when a 19-year-old woman was walking along Winwick Road when she was grabbed from behind by an unknown man who attempted to drag her into the bushes near Majestic Wine. Thankfully the woman escaped unharmed and sought help from a passing taxi driver.
Police launched a CCTV appeal following the incident.
