Apartments block approved

PLANNERS have given the go-ahead for two blocks of apartments of up to three storeys in height on a former pub car park at Warrington.
The borough council’s development management committee approved the scheme despite opposition from more than 30 nearby residents.
Square One Lifestyle Homes put forward the proposals for land at the rear of the former Highwayman pub, in Manchester Road – now a convenience store.
Residents of Bennett Avenue claimed homes and gardens would be overlooked by the new properties and that the development – which will consist of 12 apartments – would create traffic and parking problems.
Proposed balconies on the upper floors would also rob existing residents of privacy.
But the committee decided the scheme could go ahead after hearing it would provide innovative, affordable homes for first time buyers and key workers.
A parking space would be provided for each home and there would also be cycle and bin storage compounds.
