POLICE are urging parents to speak to their children after youngsters aged between 6 and 10 were spotted climbing up a motorway gantry on the M62 near Warrington.

North West Motorway police have received reported calls from concerned members of the public about children climbing up the signal gantries on the M62 between junction 11 at Birchwood and Junction 12 at Eccles near Irlam.

The activity has been described as ‘dangerous’ with parents urged to emphasise this to their children. The signalling gantries alert motorists to hazards or changing speed limits and hang directly over the road.

North West Motorway Police took to social media to issue a warning stating: “We have had repeated calls about children climbing up on the signal gantries on M62 between J12 and 11 Westbound near to Irlam. They are only aged approximately 6 – 10 yrs.
“I can’t express enough how dangerous this. Parents, please remind your children of the dangers of the motorway.”
