A Warrington animal welfare charity is urging people to sign an online petition calling for traffic calming following the sad death of another goose at Whittle Hall this morning, Friday.

Warrington Animal Welfare say a total of nine Geese have now been killed this week by speeding motorists.

The latest incident was near where children cross for school – close to the roundabout near the duck pond at Whittle Hall at Lingley Green Avenue, near Kingsdale Road.
Anyone with information on who hit and left the goose to die can also contact the charity anonymously and they will pass the details to the relevant authorities.

The charity is also urging people to sign the petition, regarding traffic calming measures being called for after the incident earlier this week when seven geese were killed: Already more than 4,300 people have signed the petition which can be viewed by CLICKING HERE

Warrington Borough Council is aware of the petition calling for further traffic calming measures on Omega Boulevard but say the road is classed as an A road and designed to serve the distribution centres, providing the main access to Junction 8 of the M62. The recent closure on Omega Boulevard for utilities works to be undertaken would appear unfortunately to have encouraged the geese to sit in or gather on the carriageway.
When traffic management requirements for the road were reviewed, the speed limit of 30mph and signage were correct.
A council spokesperson said:”Due to there being a low number of collisions in the area, there is no immediate plan to introduce additional traffic calming measures. Anyone who witnesses speeding should report it to the police so that action can be taken.
“When improvement works were carried out on Omega Boulevard, including improvements at its junction with Lingley Green Avenue, a layby was installed to enable the police to undertake speed enforcement. This happens on a regular basis and we have requested for this to be increased following this incident.”

A 31-year-old man from Liverpool has since been arrested in connection with the incident last Saturday on nearby Omega Boulevard and has been released pending further investigations.
