PLANS to convert a barn dating back to the mid-1800s into a one bedroom dwelling have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council.

The scheme involves the barn adjoining the Grade 2 Listed “Cottage” in Bellhouse Lane, Grappenhall – formerly known as Bellhouse Farm House.
The barn is also attached to the adjoining Bellhouse Community Centre.
Planning chiefs have been assured the scheme involves no alterations to the adjoining Listed building.
“The proposal will enhance the area through the restoration and saving of a dilapidated existing brick building that is Listed and of architectural merit. The proposal involves little alteration to the building.”

Any brickwork removed to create proposed opening in the existing walls will be reutilised in the scheme.
“A residential conversion is considered the best use of the structure as it fulfils the requirements of the applications and saves the existing structure that, if left as it is, will decline further and become a safety risk.
“This would also result in the potential loss of a characterful building.”
Planning officers are now considering the proposals.
