Up to six weeks of road closures looming for busy town centre roads

UP to six weeks of evening road closures are scheduled to come into force at the end of August on two sections of busy town centre roads for carriageway resurfacing.

The closures impacting Wilson Patten Street and Bold Street, will take place between 7 pm to 1 am in a bid to minmise traffic disruption.

Warrington Borough Council has given notice it intends to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of which will be to introduce a prohibition of driving & clearway as follows: Wilson Patten Street from its junction with Barbauld Street to its junction with Winmarleigh Street; Bold Street (north) from its junction with Wilson Patten Street to its junction with St. Austins Lane/Museum Street; Bold Street (south) from its junction with Wilson Patten Street south for 50 metres.

The Order will be effective from 29th August 2023 for 6 weeks, between 7pm and 1am, when signed on site. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative route will be via Bridgefoot, Mersey Street, Warrington New Bridge, Wilderspool Causeway, Chester Road and Slutchers Lane or via Slutchers Lane, Chester Road, Wilderspool Causeway and Warrington Bridge or via Parker Street, Liverpool Road, Priestley Street, Froghall Lane, Midland Way, Brick Street, Fennel Street, Mersey Street and vice versa. The restrictions are required for carriageway resurfacing.
