Ludovico produces acting workshops for male mental health service users

WARRINGTON creative company, Ludovico, has partnered with Culture Warrington to produce a series of free acting workshops called ‘ReACT’, to support male mental health across the borough.

Receiving funding from Warrington Voluntary Association has allowed Ludovico to run the series of drama workshops for men in the Warrington area.

Ludovico is producing these workshops for men who are currently using mental health services in Warrington, or who may simply be going through a challenging time at present. No previous acting experience is necessary!
The workshops are about working in a group, building confidence and self-esteem, and also having fun! We want to reduce isolation and encourage teamwork and communication, whilst providing some form of emotional access.

Attendees will examine a series of drama and comedy scripts from well-known TV shows and films in a simple, accessible way.

Darren Jeffries, Actor, Ludovico founder and tutor said: “We want people to feel comfortable and un-intimidated when performing, especially if it’s something they haven’t tried since school, college, or ever! Many people dealing with mental health challenges have explained how these sessions put a real spring in their step.
“It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, try something different, and tap into a bit of creativity at the same time. Whilst we’ve had people in the past attend their first class full of nerves, it’s remarkable how quickly those nerves disappear. It never fails to surprise me and I think it’s the realisation that acting is something that everyone can experience.”
“It’s the same as playing a musical instrument, or a game of football, in that it doesn’t need to be about becoming a professional. You can do it for yourself, for your own well-being or satisfaction, and get whatever you like from it. I know there will be men out there who may be thinking ‘definitely not for me’ but I think these are the men who might surprise themselves the most! It’s a productive and collaborative environment and the work produces real camaraderie. We absolutely encourage a pressure-free environment, all that’s required is an open mind and the willingness to try something new!”
