Safety call at busy junction

AN urgent call for safety measures to improve a busy junction has been made by Stockton Heath Parish Council.
Members want a pedestrian crossing phase or a school crossing patrol at the junction of Grappenall Road/Ackers Road/Chester Road/Lumb Brook Road, following an accident in which a child was knocked down.
Chairman Cllr Celia Jordan said she had visited the site with representatives of the borough council. Council officers are to report back to her after assessing the schools’ travel plan.
“At about 3.30 pm the junction is very busy with many children and young people using the crossing,” she said.
“We need to make them more aware of road safety – there were two lads from Bridgewater High crossing and they were not going to hurry for anyone.”
Clerk Peter Briggs said the borough council reported it was difficult to introduce a pedestrian phase as there were more pressing demands. They may do a vehicle and pedestrian numbers check on site.

  1. If the cars from Ackers Road didn’t keep jumping the red lights for several seconds after they turn to red, there wouldn’t be such congestion on the junction. Other drivers then become frustrated and stop driving with care. A recipe for disaster.

  2. If you want a Zebra Crossing or Pelican Crossing for which there no funds available I suggest you have the two crossings destinied for the North East of Warrington about which there has been no consultation and which are not wanted by local residents!
