AN “Olympics” open weekend is to take place in Warrington on Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24.
The event will take place at Poole Park, Longford on the Saturday and Westy Community Centre, Latchford the following day.
Led by Warrington Borough Council’s Sport Engagement Team, it’s a chance for families to have a fun day out and experience a range of sports and cultural activities as the countdown to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games begins.
There will be football, rugby, boxing, athletics, zumba, drumming, haka and arts and crafts on offer, as well as a healthy eating cook and taste event.
With just a year to go until the Olympics begin, the event will give people a chance to get involved.
Cllr Kate Hannon, the borough council’s executive member for leisure, community and culture, said: ‘The Olympics open weekend promises a fun filled day out for all the family and the chance to get involved with the games.
“With a wide variety of activities on offer from athletics to cookery, there really is something for everyone, so why not make a day of it.”
