Police hunt for suspicious man

POLICE at Warrington are appealing for help from the public following reports of a man acting suspiciously.
A woman walking her dog at Culcheth has been confronted by the same man twice – and believes that he was staring at her in a menacing manner.
On Friday, July 8 the woman was walking along Hob Hey Lane around 7.30pm when a dark coloured Mercedes – possible purple or blue – approached at speed from behind her. It stopped abruptly at an angle in the middle of the road and a man got out and beckoned to her to approach the car.
The car door was wide open and the man took a couple of steps towards the woman.
But he then got back in the car and drove off at speed towards Wigshaw Lane.
The woman had seen the same man in the same car two days previously – Wednesday July 6 – around the same time and in the same area.
She formed the impression he was staring at her in a menacing manner, although he did not say anything and then appeared to smile at her. She believes he may have smelled of alcohol. After a while he drove off at speed towards Wigshaw Lane.
The man is described as being in his early 60s, of medium build, with wispy grey short hair and a round chubby face, wearing black rimmed glasses. He was wearing a white shirt with an open neck, no tie and grey suit trousers.
Police are appealing for any witnesses of either incident – or for anyone who knows the identity of the man or has any information about the vehicle – to come forward.
Anyone with any information which might assist police is urged to call Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
