THE 20th anniversary of Warrington’s Disability Awareness Day once again proved to be a huge success as thousands of people flocked to the unique event at Walton Gardens.
The event organised by the Warrington Disability Partnership attracted visitors from far and wide, including a delegation from Thailand!
It proved to be an emotional occasion for WDP Chairman Dave Thompson, who reflected on how the event had grown over 20 years, starting from marking a couple of small sections for exhibitors with a tin of paint with his son Gavin, to a tented village now attracting tens of thousands of visitors.
Various sponsors and supporters were presented with special commemorative plaques in recognition of their support.
Dave explained how it had been even more difficult to attract sponsorship than previous years but various fund-raising events, including a sponsored scuba dive by himself and others, had ensured the event could continue in a similar format.
Plans are now in hand for the 21st anniversary event next year.

Another fantastic event – keep up the good work and well done to everyone involved in organising it.
although a long and tiring day (as an exhibitor) once again DAD was a fantastic day – after many years attending it never ceases to amaze me just how well organised it all is. Dave, WDP and all the stewards deserve a huge thank you for all their hard work in making sure everyone enjoys the day.
I must say that all the staff, volunteers, stewards and exhibitors of the event really deserve a big thank you . I am a member of the public who attended this event. It was fantastic! The atmosphere, the shows, the different stalls in the tents, and all the exhibitions were a wonderful sight to see. The place seemed to be buzzing this year with excitement. The quality of the shows in the main tent were amazing. The work of the contestants and the timing of each act was a delight to see. This seems to me to have been the best ever yet! I certainly agree with the comment above. I would like to say a big thank you to all staff, stewards, volunteers and exhibitors of the event for such a fantastic day. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. The organisation of such a show must be a huge task. Thank you everyone who was involved in it. There was something for everyone.
