Police issue warning over scammers offering toxic mould surveys and bogus energy efficiency claims

0

POLICE at Orford have issued a warning about cold-callers who are targeting properties in the area offering toxic mould surveys and bogus energy efficiency claims.

The scammers will claim that they work on behalf of the local housing trust and will use high pressure sales tactics to pressure people into paying an ‘admin fee’ which they say is necessary to secure a government energy efficiency grant.

Local officers are urging residents to be cautious when dealing with cold callers. Even if you think the work may need doing speak to a family member or trusted neighbour first. Never be pressured into handing over money there and then.

A reputable firm will provide a quote in writing first. You will also be entitled to a cooling off period of 14 days after having work carried out.
Officers have made Warrington Borough Council trading standards aware of these rogue traders. If you are visited by a cold caller or someone acting suspiciously please call police on 101. In an emergency always dial 999.
