Grappers second best in a high-scoring match

GRAPPENHALL came off second best in a high-scoring match at Oxton in the Cheshire County League ECB Premier division.
Batting first they hit a challenging 237-8 with Ben Bodha top scoring with 60 not out and Adam Roylance, making his first appearance after a lengthy absence, hitting a fine 50 at the top of the innings.
Kiwi Tom MacRury chipped in with 38.
But Oxton made short work of the total with a remarkable batting performance as they coasted home with five overs to spare for the loss of just three wickets.
Grappenhall 2nd won by four wickets at home to Marple.
Marple were bowled out for 138 with leg spinner Fameesh Azeez taking 6-23 in nine overs. In response, Grappers’ openers got off to a good start but a mini collapse in the middle of the innings rang an alarm bell. But in the end theyl got home for the loss of four wickets with 25 overs to spare.
The 3rd XI game at Bowdon on Sunday was washed out after the home side had posted 191.
Warrington got the better of a drawn game at home to Winnington Park after being put in and scoring 255-6.
Opener Malcolm Agar – returning to the side after a long absence – hit a fine 101 and Aamir Ali 45 while skipper Patrick Tyrrell contributed 31.
The visitors batted well but never really looked like reaching their target. At the close they were 207-7. Thaakier Davids, with 3-46 and James Rudd, with 3-30 were the pick of the Warrington bowlers.
Warrington 2nd won by five wickets at Port Sunlight, putting the home side in and dismissing them for a modest 108. Mahmood Mir took 6-21.
David Lee top scored with 31 as Warrington replied with 111-5.
Warrington 3rd won by 70 runs at Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd.
Batting first they hit 214-8 and then dismissed the home side for 144.
Lymm Oughtrington Park 1st won by four wickets at Bowdon Vale.
The home side batted first and hit 186-6. Pick of the Lymm bowlers was Anthony Spaven with 3-21.
Lymm’s reply got off to a bad start as they lost six wickets cheaply. Then Antonnel Atwell, with 62 not out and skipper Shovan Chatterjee with 55 not out came together to carry the side to victory.
Appleton lost by 27 in an entertaining game at home to Middlewich who won the toss and decided to bat first, totalling 225 alll out. Pick of the Appleton bowlers were Moshin Rafique, 3-49 and Praveen Prahlad, 3-51.
After a poor start, Appleton went for the runs with Ian Richards hammering 68 and Rafique, 52. But they were all out for 198.
Appleton 2nd won by nine wickets at Winsford after bowling out the home side for 85. Arun Arungunasekaram took 3-25. Appleton coasted to 88-1 with Guy Collighan hitting an unbeaten 37 and Jonny Beatson 41 not out.
Appleton 3rd picked up the points the easy way when opponents Warrington 4th failed to raise a team.
But Appleton 4th lost heavily to Barnton, who hit 223-7. Appleton could only must 90 in their 40 overs.
Glazebury lost by five wickets at Tranmere Victoria despite posting a challenging 215, with Ben Marote hitting 93 not out b efore running out of partners. Skipper Anthony Meulman hit 33.
The home side reached their target with five wickets and three overs to spare.
Glazebury 2nd lost by 10 wickets to Lindow after being bowled out for 48, with only Ryan Warhurst, 22, reaching double figures.
WOMEN’S CRICKET
Appleton won by four wickets at home to Upton after dismissing the visitors for 63, Becca Othick taking 4-25 and Abbey Gore 3-7.
Opener Holly McCurrie top scored with 23 as Appleon replied with 67-6.
Lymm Oughtrington Park won at home to Oakmere after batting first and hitting 83-4. Lucy Gardiner hit 33 not out. Oakmere hit 65-6 with Hannah Tovil, 3-15, the pick of the Lymm bowlers.
Grappenhall picked up their first league victory playing only their second-ever game when they defeated Alvanley.
Grappers posed 125-7, with Bethany Garnett hitting 40 from 28 balls. Alvanley were 82 for five at the close.
