Tories name by-election candidate

The Conservatives have named their candidate for the forthcoming Warrington Borough Council by-election in Poulton North ward.
He is Mark Chapman, (right) a 39-year-old warehouseman and delivery driver for a tyre wholesaler.
Apart from when he was in the army, Mark has lived in Poulton North for the whole of his life, attending Longbarn Primary and Padgate High schools before joining the army, where he served for six years with the Kings Regiment.
He is particularly interested in the play areas, parks and their environment and has already written to the borough council raising safety issues concerning play areas that have not been maintained.
But he is also concerned at the lack of play facilities, such as a skateboarding area, and would seek to encourage the council to invest in formal play areas.
He said: “As a person who has to have a genuine job to be able to live, I have empathy with the constituents of Poulton North concerning the daily problems and financial constraints that they encounter and, if elected, will assist wherever possible in seeking to ensure the constituents in Poulton North will have a quality living environment.”
The Liberal Democrats have already named former borough councillor Colin Oliver as their candidate while Labour have named 21-year-old Ashley Pemberton.
UKIP – the UK Independence Party – has named James Ashington, a former Tory councillor at Lymm, as a candidate for the by-election, which was caused by the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Sharon Wilson and will take place on Thursday, July 28.

  1. council tax payer on

Why is the Labour Candidate listed as being “21 year old”? This is totally wrong and ageist a form of discrimination that should be outlawed.

  2. What on earth is wrong with giving peoples ages “council tax payer”… it’s pretty obvious from their photos what sort of age they are anyway …. I guess you will be wanting photo’s banning too soon then 🙂

  3. I suppose if you’re a blindly committed Tory you might! Otherwise an intelligent, well educated, enthusiastic, young, energetic and community minded candidate might be a more popular choice!

  4. “……..he is also concerned at the lack of play facilities, such as a skateboarding area, and would seek to encourage the council to invest in formal play areas.” If he was that concerned about the lack of play areas why didn’t he do something about it when he had Tory members on the executive? Why weren’t play areas provided then?I think ‘lack of play areas’ is an old chestnut which will be played out in all areas of the town now that the Lib/Cons are out of power. THEY have decided the future budget, have they allocated any money to provide these?…..or is it just that they’ve picked something they know people want ……….which they know THEY haven’t allocated any money for! Sad political tactics!
