Vandals attack Mr Toad scarecrow

MINDLESS vandals have tried to spoil the fun of the annual Lymm Festival

by attacking one of the characters on the popular scarecrow trail.
An exhibit depicting “Mr Toad, created by local firm PW Comms, was wrecked by hooligans late on Friday night or early Saturday morning.
PW Comms are laying the blame on Mr Toad’s arch-enemies, the Weasels, but the culprits seem more likely to have been drunken vandals making their way home.
Mr Toad had braved wind and rain for a week, riding his scooter, until the attack.
But local residents came to his rescue and before long the 6ft character – who at other times of the year is the firm’s mascot, Eric the Frog, was back on his scooter, waving to passers-by.
Scarecrows have appeared outside houses and businesses all over Lymm and, all adopting this theme of “children’s television.” As usual, are attracted plenty of comment from passers-by.
It is not the first time vandals have tried to spoil the fun of the scarecrow trail.
Most years, some of the entries are stolen or vandalised.
One year, a “cricketer” scarecrow was removed from his “home” and left in a nearby bus stop.
