50-run victory as Grappers take on powerful Chester side

GRAPPENHALL registered a magnificent 50-run victory over Cheshire County League powerhouse Chester Boughton Hall at Broad Lane.
It was only the second time in 15 years that Grappers have beaten the Chester club and it was just the sort of result the side needed as they build on an already solid start to the season.
Skipper Peter Barnes won the toss and elected to bat first – an excellent decision as the side totalled 238 in 54 overs.
He provided the glue to the innings with 48 but there were useful contributions throughout the batting order. Openers Arav Shetty and Arthur Pennington set the ball rolling with 23 and 26 respectively and there were fine innings in the middle order from Lewis Porter, 40 and Albert Pennington, 35. Kiwi Tom MacRury hammered 23 from 12 balls just when they were needed.
Chester lost both their openers early on but there was then a strong third wicket partnership before Arran McCabe took both the set batsmen, finishing with 3-49 and MacRury took 4-60 as the visitors collapsed, finishing on 188 with plenty of overs to spare.
Grappenhall 2nd lost in a high scoring game at Timperley – despite posting a commanding 294-3.
Steve Rooney batted superbly to finish on 106 not out and youngster Tom Bramhall hit 85 not out.
On any other day that would have been a winning total but the home side chased down the runs for the loss of six wickets and with two overs to spare.
Warrington went down disappointingly by 59 runs at Northwich.
The home side batted first and hit 167 all out. Pick of the Warrington bowlers was Brad Roden with 4-41.
In reply, Warrington lost both openers cheaply and never really got going, although Thaakier Davids hit 38. They were bowled out for 108.
Warrington 2nd won by 66 runs, hosting Davenham.
Batting first, they hit 188 all out,, Phil Whelan top-scoring with 53. Davenham could only muster 122, with Raj Roni, 3-22, the pick of Warrington’s bowlers.
Warrington 4th lost by 77 runs at Lindow after the home side had hit 196. Harprest Sandhu took 4-6 in 2.5 overs. In reply, Warrington never looked in the hunt and were back in the pavilion for 119, Abdul Hakeem top scoring with 33.
Lymm Oughtrington Park won the toss away at Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge, decided to field and then saw the home side hit 249.
Anthony Spaven took 3-36 and Anthony Brown 3-41 as Ladybridge accumulated runs in the heat.
In reply, Lymm lost four quick wickets and never recovered despite useful knocks from Antonnel Atwell, 73 and Brown, 45.
They eventually lost by 109
Lymm 2nd, at home to Oxton, also elected to bat first and paid a heavy penalty as the visitors hammered 247-6. Reuben Roberts took 4-28.
Harsh Saraf hit 64 and Gagan Junaja 56 as Lymm were dismissed for 158.
Lymm 3rd lost by 10 wickets at Middlewich after being held to 124-9.
Appleton went down by five wickets at Trafford Metrovics after being bowled out for 82. Rory Kellett, 19, was top scorer. Moshin Rafique, 3-12 bowled well for Appleton.
Appleton 2nd lost by 93 runs at Kingsley after the home side had hit 190-8. Appleton were bowled out for 97.
Alex Howard took 3-45 for Appleton and Phil Jackson, 24, was top scorer in a disappointing batting performance by Appleton
Appleton 3rd won by three wickets hosting Rostherne. Umar Wahid top scored with 65 as Appleton hit 140-7 in reply to Rostherne’s 139-8.
A closely fought game at Winnington Park ended in a one wicket victory for Appleton 4th who hit 163-9 in reply to the home side’s 158 all out.
Terry Major took 3-36 for Appleton while David Hurst, 38 and Paul Dempster, 49 starred with the bat.
Glazebury lost by 81 runs hosting Heaton Mersey Village.
The visitors hit 228-6 with Cassius Birch and Sean Caine picking up two wickets each.
Anthony Meulman’s 41 was the only innings of note in Glazebury’s all-out reply of 147.
