DURING a “knife sweep” in a local park a PCSO teamed up with volunteer litter pickers to help tidy up the area to create a safe and litter free environment.

As part of #OpSceptre week, which is a concentration on Knife crime, Poulton North PCSO Neil Potter conducted a knife sweep of Lysander Park, where he teamed up with volunteers from the Fearnhead & Poulton Litter Pick team.

PCSO Potter said: “I was lucky enough to be joined by Kay and Hilary who are part of the Fearnhead & Poulton Litter Pick team and together we amassed 5 bags of dropped litter from the area.

“I cannot put into words the amount of respect I have for these volunteers who tirelessly work towards making outer community a safe and litter free environment. What infuriates me though and I am sure them is that they have to do it in the first place!
“As responsible adults we should be looking after the environment we live in and as parents/guardians we should be setting that example to the children in our community.
“I will do my part by explaining this in schools but if you are a parent/guardian then please can I ask you take 2 minutes today to speak with your children and explain what this does to our environment. What it does to wildlife and the effect it has on our planet.”
Meanwhile he was pleased to report that no knives were found today.
