BIRCHWOOD councillor Nigel Balding was re-elected leader of the Conservative group on Warrington Borough Council for a second year at the group’s annual meeting.
But there were a number of changes as part of a re-shuffle of the group’s leadership team.
Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft councillor Carol Benson stepped down as deputy leader and Cllr Mark Jervis, from Appleton, became the new deputy leader.
Cllr Balding said: “I’m hugely grateful for Carol’s excellent help, advice and support in leading the Conservative councillors group this year”.
Cllr Linda Butler, Chapelford and Old Hall, became group whip and, in addition, the group elected Cllr Kath Buckley, Lymm South, as secretary and Cllr Ghazala Chapman, Appleton, as treasurer.
Cllr Balding said: “I’d like to thank all Conservative councillors for their hard work over the last 12 months. Although we have been in opposition, we have still worked hard to meet our pledges of 2021 and I’m confident that we’ll keep working hard for residents right up to the next Warrington council elections in May 2024.
“We will continue to press for improvements in WBC performance whilst holding the Labour administration to account. We’ll continue working to protect our greenbelt, support the local economy, keep Warrington’s transport systems going, provide the right mix of homes, support vulnerable adults as well as families and children. We’ll keep finding ways to improve council services whilst controlling and reducing the WBC Debt.”
