By-election after councillor quits

A BOROUGH council by-election will be held at Warrington next month following the shock resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Sharon Wilson.
The Poulton North ward councillor (pictured), and former member of the council’s executive board, has announced she is standing down little more than a month after the May elections.
The by-election will take place on Thursday, July 28 and nominations will close at 12 noon on July 1.
It will provide an opportunity for Labour to increase their majority on the council.
In May, Labour candidate Graham Friend won the Poulton North contest with 1,442 votes – a majority of 238 over sitting Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Oliver, 1,204.
Conservative candidate Nigel Balding came third with 906 votes.

  1. Why didn’t she stand down before the elections so that people could vote for her sucessor then rather than to now have the expense and inconvenience of having to hold a by-election !!

  2. Miaow to the 3 of you. She was a good councillor who has probably had enough. Dizzy, there must be a very good reason. Good luck with whatever you do Sharon. Ignore the petty-minded jealous thick-heads who can’t see beyond your cleavage. Perhaps they would rather have a nun standing for election.

  3. The best decision for her electorate. We can then get a replacement who will work for them. How do we judge that she was a “good councillor”? The Lib/Dem Councillors in Poulton North are well know for talking and promising but not delivering. Thus, the result in the last two elections. The current Councillors are working hard for their electorate and I hope they get a colleague to join in and share this vital work.
