How to get fit for half marathon

THREE special training plans are available for participants in this year’s Spire Healthcare English Half Marathon – to be held at Warrington on September 18.
They should enable runners to be in peak condition for the race.
Andy Eadsforth, director of the Spire Hospital at Stretton, said: “This is a great event for us be involved in – an event which brings together both our local community as well as attracting visitors from around the UK to our town.”
He said the hospital team and consultants were excited about the race. Some would be running and raising money for their favourite charities, others would be volunteering with marshalling or staffing water stations on the day.
“Many of our patients come to see our orthopaedic consultants and physiotherapists as a result of injuries they’ve sustained during their sporting activities so we’ll also be able to offer expert advice to the runners on how to avoid injury, get fit and stay healthy during their training for the English Half Marathon,” he added.
Special offers for runners will be available from the Spire Cheshire Hospital in the coming weeks.
Details of how to enter the race can be found at www.english-half.co.uk
New Balance, which has its European headquarters in Warrington, continues as Sports Footwear and Apparel sponsor for the event. The company has been involved since the race was conceived in 2009.
For those taking part in the race there are three 12-week training plans available to download from the website – for beginners, improvers and Intermediate.
