Asylum seekers set to arrive at Holiday Inn Hotel next week despite council and police objections

HOME Office plans to house asylum seekers at the Holiday Inn Hotel at Woolston is set to go ahead despite council and police opposition, with 166 males possibly arriving at the premises next week.

It follows ongoing talks between Warrington Borough Council and The Home Office.

In an earlier letter to the Home Office opposing the proposal the council expressed surprise that the Home Office had conveniently failed to address the concerns raised by both the Council and Police regarding the location of the hotel, stating it did not provide easy pedestrian access to local amenities, there was significant impact on Police resource and local health services.
Concerns were also raised in relation to vulnerable people/exploitation opportunities given the proximity to nearby motorway networks had also not been recognised.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We have met with the Home Office to discuss a number of issues raised in relation to this matter. While the Home Office assure us that all of the concerns raised by the council and our partners have been considered, they have confirmed their intention to progress with the activation of this hotel, possibly with effect from Wednesday 10 May, for up to 166 males.
“We have reaffirmed our opposition to the decision by the Home Office and dispute that all of our concerns have been properly discussed. We will of course work with Serco, the government contractor who will manage this facility, to ensure any statutory services are delivered in line with our responsibilities.”

  1. How can they possibly justify 166 males turning up at the Holiday Inn. There is no way that can all be legitimate asylum seekers. What about women and children. This just highlights everything that people suspect as being the source of illegal, economic migrants. House prices will drop and residents will have concerns over security. Let down again by WBC and our Warrington North MP.

    • Totally agree with you Jim
This labour council and MP have no respect for their citizens imposing this type of circumstances and treatment .
It’s time for them to be voted out !!

    • Lovely to meet some of these human beings . I watch them play cricket and football together . My wife and I took two bicycles to them last night . Had a great chat with a guy from Eritrea . Such a shame people have already decided these people are less than human without any attempt to chat to them. I’ve had leaflets from a Neo Nazi party pushed through my letter box . I was behind a guy in the local Tesco who was telling someone that because an immigrant in the shop had a mobile phone and new trainers being an immigrant was a great life . What have we become as a nation

  2. How on earth Jim can you say it’s WBC and the Labour MP’s fault. (It’s like saying if the cat had kittens it’s their fault) x
