Grappers storm to fine six-wicket victory

GRAPPENHALL stormed to a fine six wicket victory at Widnes in the Cheshire County league ECB Premier division – largely due to their two new recruits.
New Zealander Tom MacRory took 4-55 as Widnes were bowled out for 187 and former Lancashire 2nd all-rounder Aran Shetty took 3-31 and followed it up with a fine 56.
Grappers’ regular Albert Pennington hit 60 not out and Ben Bodha contributed 25 not out as the visitors coasted to 188-4 with plenty of overs to spare.
An encouraging result for Grappenhall following their narrow defeat at Toft the previous week and a hopeful sign that they can survive in the top division.
Grappenhall 2nd also won – beating Oulton Park by three wickets at Broad Lane.
The visitors were bowled out for 137, Thom Bramhall taking 3-36 and James Knowles 3-26. Grappers replied with 140-7, skipper Graeme Rowlands hitting an unbeaten 34 and Daniel Adkins 31.
Warrington’s home game against Hawk Green ended in a draw when rain brought proceedings to an early conclusion. The visitors had hit 261-3 and the rain arrived before Warrington could start their reply. Ashley Scholes took 2-69 and James Rudd 1-34.
Warrington 2nd lost by two wickets at Stockport after being held to 162-9. Stockport finished on 166-8.
In the Cheshire League, Appleton came out on top in the “derby” game at home to Lymm Oughtrington Park.
Appleton hit 131-8, Ali Sharif 42, Rory Kellett 37 and Ian Richards 27.Then Lymm were demolish for 72, opener Prashant Nanda hitting 30 of them. Amir Aslam took 3-24.
Appleton 2nd won at Neston after bowling out the home side for 153, Harry Sygrove 3-18, Dave Sujith 3-35 and Michael Cumbrland 4-29.
Richard Buck hit 55 and Jonny Beaton 41 not out.
Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd lost by 13 runs against Stockport Trinity after being bowled out for 133.
Glazebury’s game at Offerton was abandoned to the weather after the home side had been bowled out for 143 and Glazebury had reached 36-2. Tom Whitby, 3-29 abd Campbell Thomson, 3-30 were the picked of the Glazebury bowlers.
Glazebury 2nd were dismissed for an embarrassing 35 at home to Europa Mere who hit off the runs for the loss of three wickets.
