A TEAM from Warrington that helped recruit 78 local people to new jobs has won a prestigious national award.
Golden Gates Housing Trust’s Human Resources department won Team of Year award at this year’s Housing Heroes Awards, beating tough competition from other social housing providers throughout the country.
They were honoured at a glittering awards ceremony in London hosted by BBC news presenter George Alagiah, and organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing.
There were more than 300 entrants to the national competition and the judges reported a very high standard.
The trust’s chief executive Peter Mercer congratulated the team and said the success reflected their hard work during the past 12 months.
He said: “We have undertaken our biggest ever recruitment drive and the team has played a key role in ensuring that we have been able to bring in the best people and support the local economy.
“We are currently delivering a series of employment initiatives designed to help people from our estates in Warrington gain skills and experience that will help them gain employment either with ourselves or with another local employer.
“This has included working with Warrington Borough Council and Job Centre Plus to recruit and offer 78 local people roles through the Future Jobs Fund.”

We’ve recently filled some vacancies at our firm, can our HR dept have an award for just doing what they get paid for too?
I really do not know how this Warrington people are nominated and win these awards! Correct, an award for simply doing their job. Look at the Warrington market which is suppoosed to be the best in the Country. I don’t know where the judges were looking. It is simply not up to scratch compared to other North West
Markets. I don’t know why these unwarranted awards are reported.
