New members for police authority

THREE new members have been appointed to Cheshire Police Authority – including Warrington Borough Council’s Peter Walker.
Cllr Walker (pictured) – previously a member of the authority from 1994 to 2009 and a former vice chairman – is also a member of Stockton Heath Parish Council and a Deputy Lieutenant for Cheshire.
He represents Appleton on the borough council as a Liberal Democrat, rejoining the council after losing his seat at the previous year’s elections
The other new members are Cllr Andrew Dawson, Conservative, a member of Cheshire West and Chester Council who is the current Mayor of Frodsham, and Cllr Peter Nurse, a former chairman of the police authority for seven years, who is a member of Cheshire East Council.
He has been a county councillor since 1981 and represents Crewe West.
Of the 17 members of the police authority, nine are allocated from the four borough councils on the basis of population. The eight other Members are independently appointed following a rigorous selection process, and one must be a magistrate. It is this balance of political and independent governance of the police force which helps to ensure accountability to the people of Cheshire.

  1. council tax payer on

What a disgrace! Warrington has just rejected the Lib/Dems and a new administration is in place. Should not a member of that majority administration represent Warrington on the Police Authority? As you say, a nice little earner, on top of the other alalowances paid to this new member from his various appointments. He, certainly, has his snout in the financial trough!!!

  2. Snout in the financial trough- that’s Labour – lets look at the facts Cllr Mike and Cllr Kate Hannon will benefit from over £30K this coming year???? job for the boys.

Why does WBC pay expenses of Cllr O’Neill weekly for overnight Hotels for the Coalfield Alliance. Warrington (some parts of) have had money from this group but how much would WBC get anyway without this joke of thinking its because Terry the Vice Chair thats why we get funding – Rubbish its so he can meet up with his friends on that train with his mates at our cost. Look at what he has put in his pocket for years 2006/2007 2007/2008 2008/2009 2009/2010 – keep the funding going Warrington – All councillors need a review of what they get –
