New outdoor bar planned for historic pub

PLANS have been drawn up for a new outdoor bar and servery at the historic Black Swan pub at Hollins Green, Warrington.

The development – details of which have been submitted to the borough council’s planning department – involves the removal of the existing outdoor bar and barbecue, which said to be nearing the end of its useful life.

Dating from 1667, the pub has undergone many alterations and extensions over the years to meet local demand and remains a key asset to the village. It was locally listed by the council in 2014.
The proposal is to improve the facilities within the outdoor realm for customers of the pub and remove the existing outdoor barbecue and bar area.
The new facility will be smaller and has been designed to blend in with the main pub building.

Reclaimed brickwork in a herringbone pattern will be used for the bar wall and there will be a thatched roofed timber frame oval pavilion. The surrounding area will be paved with Indian stone to match the existing paving.
The aim of the scheme is to improve the recreational facilities while respecting the character of the building.
The application is being considered by Warrington Borough Council planning officers.
