WARRINGTON Rylands came from a goal behind to win 3-1 against Belper Town at Gorsey Lane as the club paid tribute to stalwart supporter Dom Breslin, who sadly died earlier in the week aged just 31.
As a mark of respect, the players wore black armbands after the players entered the pitch to the Z cars theme tune followed by a minutes applause in memory of Dom who was also a member of Warrington Rugby League Referees’ Society and described as a ‘giant’ in the town’s football and rugby communities. Dom, who was a former Birchwood Cllr. was a vocal supporter of Warrington Rylands FC, as well as Warrington Wolves – as well as backing Everton in the Premier League.
Rylands started strongly with Osebi Abadaki causing their visitors plenty of problems down the left flank, however it was Belper, whose relegation from the Premier Division was confirmed last Tuesday, who took the lead in the 6th minute. A Curtis Burrows free kick found Tom Wilson unmarked in the penalty area, unchallenged Wilson powered his header into the net.
Rylands continued to attack their visitors goal with Abadaki flashing the ball across the Belper goal which no one could get a touch on, while Nailers goalkeeper Tom Jackson pulled off a couple of good saves tipping an Abadaki shot over the bar and palming Scott Duxbury’s header from the resulting corner away.
Rylands drew level in the 22nd minute when while some Belper defenders were shouting for offside Mo Touray’s shot took a wicked deflection of Wilson leaving Jackson wrong footed and with no chance.
The Blues were now firmly on top, creating numerous chances they were thwarted on several occasions by Jackson who pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Jordan Mustoe and Sam Egerton before halftime while Rylands also had a strong penalty appeal for handball in the 40th minute turned down.
The second half continued in a similar fashion to the first with Rylands dominating play and creating numerous chances and Jackson producing good saves while several shots flew just off target.
Rylands finally broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when four minutes after entering the field of play Jack Hindle was found at the far post by a Jordan Mustoe corner, the substitute finished clinically volleying home his first goal for the club.
Touray completed the scoring in the 87th minute firing under the diving Jackson from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by the keeper.
