How to save the planet!

YOUNGSTERS from Warrington schools submitted their ideas to “Save the Planet, Save the Pounds!” during celebrations to mark Climate Week.
Entries were of a high standard and two winners were chosen – Bewsey Lodge Primary and Sankey Valley St James Primary. Pupils from Burtonwood Primary received the runner up prize.
Bewsey Lodge’s eco-warriors produced an entry about eco-champions who act in the school and the community to save the planet. Their prize was a visit from George Pilkington from Nurturing Nature who gave a presentation to youngsters about worms and compost.
A member of the school staff said: “The children really enjoyed the challenge and were thrilled with their prize. George engaged the children to make compost and worms really exciting.”
Sankey Valley St James received an environmental education session with the borough council rangers, and the runners up each received a family swimming pass.
Cllr Linda Dirir, the borough council’s executive member for highways, transportation and climate change, said: “This competition is a fantastic initiative that helps children learn more about the importance of the environment and tackling climate change.”
