Indoor bowls league to launch

INDOOR long mat bowling will launch in Warrington this winter – thanks to a partnership between local bowling leagues and Leisure Warrington.
It will start in October at the Birchwood Leisure and Tennis Centre, with league matches taking place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, plus Friday evenings.
Two 32m X 4m mats will be laid over the tennis courts – enabling local bowlers to carry on playing throughout the winter months.
Spokesman John Kirkham said: “The leagues will each consist of 16 teams.
“Already we have many clubs signing up. It promises to be a very competitive league.”
At present, bowlers in Warrington have to go out of town if they want indoor long mat bowling in the winter – many travelling to Leigh.
Barry Geden, head of leisure and wellbeing at Leisure Warrington said: “We are delighted with our partnership with the bowling leagues as, wherever possible, we continue to support all sports and groups within the town.”
