Grappers' victory earns 20 points

GRAPPENHALL collected 20 points from a four wicket win at Oulton Park to take them to a comfortable mid-table position in the Chapel Press Cheshire County League premier division.
Stand-in skipper Richard Green elected to bowl first on winning the toss and at first it appeared a poor decision as the home side’s openers built a useful partnership. But Grappenhall gradually began to get among the wickets and, with Sam Guest taking 3-58 and Tony Hurdley 2-96 they eventually restricted Oulton Park to 247-6 – not that formidable a target on a small ground.
However, Grappenhall lost two quick wickets and were struggling at 12-2. Green and Luke McCoy, 46, put on 91 for the third wicket however and Iain Barnes hit a brisk 33 as Green continued to pile on the runs.
The former Lancashire batsman eventually finished on 110 not out as Grappenhall passed the home side’s total.
Grappenhall 2nd also ran out winners against Oulton Park at Broad Lane after the visitors had been held to 173-8, Albert Pennington taking 4-35.
Opener Paul Radage hit a patient 37 not out as Grappers replied with 174-7, Neil Titchard 48.
Warrington were held to a draw at Upton. Batting first they hit 195-8, Malcolm Agar 34, Richard Heaney 38 and Robert Batey 41 not out. Upton were hanging on at 134-8 at the close after Batey took 3-24 and Matt Adams 3-22.
Warrington 4th went down by 10 wickets against Oxton and Walton Lea.
In the Cheshire Alliance, the “derby” game between Rylands and Appleton ended in an eight wicket victory for Rylands.
Appleton batted first and were dismissed for 147, Adam Peters taking 8-79 in an inspired spell of bowling. Dave Hurst, 29 and Danny Oliver, 39, were Appleton’s top scorers.
Rylands had little trouble reaching their target, ending on 148-2, Peter Knowles hitting64, Eddie Platt 38 and Alan Brady 22 not out.
Appleton 2nd also went down when they took on Frodsham at Lyons Lane. Batting first, they were dismissed for 129, Simon Tomlinson 26 and Gareth Bailey 22. Frodsham reached their target with two wickets to spare with Chris Tomlinson taking 3-24 and Jenny Clarke 3-18.
Appleton 4th chalked up a good win over Norbury after declaring on 189-9. John Lloyd hit 50, Dom Smith 30 and Mike Workman 40. Norbury were dimissed for 157 with Inzy Rashid taking 4-23 and Peter Hesford 3-45.
Rylands 2nd went down at Heaton Mersey Village. The home side batted first and took 188-6, Sujith Nair taking 4-32. Rylands were dismissed for 103, with Nair top scorring with 24.
Glazebury moved to the top of the first division with a superb win over last week’s leaders Wistaston Village.
Batting first they mustered 154-9, with wicket-keeper batsman Jack Warhurst hitting 70 and skipper Andrew Calvert 24.
Wistaston were tumbled out for 97, with Sam Stanier taking 3-33, Savid Acton 3-28 and Calvert 3-13.

Women’s cricket

APPLETON’S Emma Barlow hit the first century of the season in division one of the Cheshire Women’s League as the reigning champions defeated Romley and Dinting.The result moved Appleton to within three points of the leaders in a division where all teams have now tasted defeat.
Barlow hit 112, supported by Debbie Kingston with 42 and Anni Rashid, 32 not out, as Appleton posted a formidable 236-5.
Romiley replied with only 89-5, top scorers being Sutcliffe, 31 not out and Steph Ball, 24 while Jen Regan 2-23 was the pick of the Appleton attack.
