Police issue warning after spike in pedal cycle thefts

POLICE have issued a warning following a spate of pedal cycle thefts in the Burtonwood and Winwick areas of Warrington.

Local PCSO Tony Spruce has issued the warning saying: “We have recently had a spate of theft of pedal cycles in the Warrington West area with offenders either targeting unlocked bikes in bike racks or bikes with cheap locks on them

“To help prevent getting your bike stolen it is worth investing in a D-Lock
“I attended an incident recently when a bike worth £1500 was not even locked up, would you leave that much money just sat in the street?
“A chain lock even expensive ones can be cut through quite quickly however the D lock needs grinding down so makes it more difficult to steal.”
Anyone who has been a victim of a recent bike theft in the area or can assist police with their enquiries should call 101
