Resounding victory for Independent candidate at Westbrook

INDEPENDENT candidate Louise Curnow is celebrating a resounding victory after winning the Burtonwood & Westbrook by-election last night.

Louise won the Westbrook seat in the election called by 10 local residents for the vacancy on Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council following the resignation of Conservative Councillor Theo Mirfin.

Commenting on her victory, Louise said: ” I’ve been absolutely blown away by the level of support. This result sends a clear message that the majority of residents who voted want a more balanced representation on their Parish Council. The recurring message from residents during my campaign is that their voices are not being heard at a local level, but more importantly, they are not being listened to. The tide is most definitely turning as the call for more Independent representation at the local and grassroots level of governance grows stronger. ”
It follows on from a previous by-election when she lost out by one vote to Labour.

One of the first to congratulate Louise was Nigel Catlow, who is putting himself forward as an Independent when the next General Election is called.
He said:”I am really pleased for Louise Curnow (IND) winning the support of the local electorate, to serve in the contested Westbrook Ward, in Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council and rightfully gaining the trust of residents against a really powerful establishment party machine, who threw everything and everybody into their campaign.

“It is fantastic to see that an Independent Candidate can achieve such a huge result and gain the trust of those who voted. Louise deserves this as a stalwart in the local community and will serve the area well.
Westbrook yesterday has shown that there is an appetite for change and that voters are willing to support an independent-minded candidate and to give them a chance against the status quo.
Just goes to show that where there is a dream and an alternative to national politics and policies, the person can win against the party.
“Or is it, that local people are fed up with the way local issues are being ignored, being misheard and misrepresented, so want change?
After all, national politics are for General Elections, not to be confused with matters and issues close to the hearts of people in the more immediate local communities.
We need to get out of the mindset of our great-grandparents, grandparents and parents voted that way.
“Is Westbrook the start of a new voting trend to give an alternative voice a chance?”
