LATCHFORD West Labour Party have announced Latchford local Denis Matthews, a long-time campaigner and community volunteer as their candidate in the upcoming Latchford West By-election on April 20.

The by-election was called following the death of community champion, former Mayor of Warrington and Labour Councillor Les Morgan who sadly passed away in January.

Denis is no stranger to Latchford having been born, raised, and started a small business in the area. He now works in Latchford and spends his spare time volunteering and supporting a Latchford-based community group.

Denis said: “I’m proud to be from Latchford. It’s where I grew up, it’s where I lived for most of my life, it’s where I started my own small business and it’s where I work now.
“My family have lived here for four generations. I care deeply about our communities. Residents’ concerns are my concerns.
“I’ve already spoken to hundreds of residents in Latchford West, listening to their concerns and picking up casework.
“We all know times are tough right now. After 13 years of brutal Tory cuts to our public services and Tory economic mismanagement, hardworking families are struggling through no fault of their own.
“Labour has been working hard to protect Warrington’s most vulnerable residents. People are my priority.
“It’s a huge honour to be selected as Labour’s candidate and be given the opportunity to represent the residents of Latchford West, but it’s also bittersweet.
“Les Morgan worked tirelessly for our local communities. He leaves behind a strong legacy of community service. I have no doubt he will be a hard act to follow but I promise to do my very best.
“I will always stand up for what’s right and never be afraid to speak out on the issues that matter to local residents. Anyone who seeks to represent our town must listen to all voices and work to bring us together, not pull us apart.
“It would be an honour and a privilege to be elected by the residents of Latchford West on the 20th April and I promise to repay their trust by listening to everyone’s concerns and working hard on the issues that matter most to them.
“If anybody wants to get in touch you can tell me what matters to you by filling in the residents’ survey on the Warrington Labour website. https://warringtonlabour.org/survey/
