Champions Lymm prepare for cup journey

AFTER being crowned champions Lymm Rugby Club is now preparing to embark on the Papa John’s Championship Cup tournament with a trip to Bromsgrove on Saturday, April 1st.

With the Regional 1 North West League programme now completed they are now taking part in the Regional 1 Championship Cup competition, comprising of the 16 teams, finishing in the top 3/4 league places in their respective Regional RFU Level 5 leagues.

Initially, the 16 teams are to be split into 4 Pool leagues. Pools 1 & 2 comprise North and Midlands Region teams, 3 & 4 South West and East Region teams.

Lymm are in Pool 1 and will play games against Bromsgrove (A) on Saturday 1st April; Blackburn (H) on Saturday 8th April; Heath (A) on Saturday 15th April. The 4 winners of each Pool league will then be drawn to play in the Semi-finals on Saturday 22nd April. The two winners will then compete in the final at Twickenham on Sunday 30th April.
It is believed to be the first time that they have played Bromsgrove, so little is known about the club. They are celebrating 150 years of rugby, so are well-established. They run 3 teams like Lymm and the 1st XV play in Midlands Regional 1 League. This season they finished 4th having played 22 games with 13 wins, 1 draw and 8 losses.
The club will be putting on a coach for players and spectators and if there are sufficient numbers they will put on an additional coach.
The final of the competition is played at Twickenham.
