A NEW £40,000 fund to help local voluntary and community groups in parts of Warrington has been launched.
The Biffa Landfill Community Fund has been set up by Biffa (which operates the landfill site at Silver Lane, Risley) in partnership with the Birchwood Endowment Fund.
It will help groups based in or benefiting those in the Birchwood, Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft areas.
The fund will be administered by Warrington Grassroots, Cllr John Joyce’s chosen charity during his recent Mayoral year, for which £20,000 was raised. Biffa has also contributed £20,000 to the fund.
Cllr John Joyce said: “This fund has been set up especially for the benefit of the small voluntary and community groups that make such a difference to the north of our town. They can apply for grants between £250 and £5,000 to help continue or strengthen the good work that they do.”
The Biffa input attracted match funding to increase the total for the Community Fund.
Cllr Russ Bowden said: “I am delighted that Biffa has made this generous donation. As the Risley site draws to the end of its operational life, it shows that Biffa is committed to working with the local community. This fund will be a significant source of funding for community groups in the future.”
