50 retirement apartments proposed at Orford

PLANS for a three-storey development of 50 retirement apartments on the site of a former farm at Orford have been submitted to Warrington planning chiefs.

The proposal involves the former Orford Farm, off School Road and would consist of 36 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom apartments.

They would all be “affordable housing” for people aged over 55, with preference given to people aged over 65.
The site would comprise suitable vehicular and pedestrian site access, onsite parking provision, secure bicycle storage, and communal garden areas, with space to store and separate household and recyclable waste.
As the surrounding property is of varying styles and sizes, the developers believe the new building will have only a limited relationship with the existing property and no reason to mimic their style.
As a result, a contemporary building is proposed.
The site consists of neglected and overgrown former farmland and is subject to fly-tipping. It is in an area within easy walking and cycling distance of a wide range of facilities.
The scheme is now being considered by Warrington Borough Council planning officers

  1. Pillings Farm was the name of the farm not Orford Farm which was further along the road. The people who currently live in the old farmhouse for Orford Farm would be surprised if Planning Permission was given for it. Must admit I did not appreciate the comments of either Danny Smith or Gary Bebbington which I thought were both rude ill mannered and ignorant. You will also notice the phrase “Affordable Housing”. This indicates that these apartments are private apartments – but then this part of Orford has always had primarily owned private property. I would even question is it actually in Orford? As far as I am aware Pillings Farm is in Warrington although property on the other side of the road to it is in Orford. Oh and Gary Bebbington why try and pretend that people from other areas are better than those in Orford. They are not. Some of them may have more money but money does not maketh the man. I would have imagined that as you I understand are an ex police man would have known.
