POLICE and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer’s Community Action Fund will reopen on April 1 – with money available for projects that will prevent and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

The application window will be open until June 30.

There is £100,000 available in the fund for projects which benefit their local community by working towards improving the safety of local residents.
Individual bids of up to £5,000 can be submitted and applicants must have the support of their local policing team for their project. Applications are welcome from community, voluntary or third-sector groups, including parish councils.
Mr Dwyer said: “I would like to encourage community-minded groups across Cheshire to apply to the fund once it reopens. This is a great opportunity to work with your local policing team to develop solutions to the issues within your community.
“A priority in my Police and Crime Plan is to prevent and tackle crime, and I believe the key to this is developing strong relationships between local residents and their policing team. By working together, we can contribute to making Cheshire an even safer place for everyone.”
Bids to the Community Action Fund must be match-funded to provide the maximum benefit to the area, which means the true value of the fund doubles to £200,000. Applicants are also asked to name a contact within their local policing team and Local Authority or volunteer centre when submitting their form.
Previous projects supported by the Fund include an education programme on street harassment for young people in Warrington.
Mr Dwyer added: “The Community Action Fund highlights the innovative ideas of Cheshire’s communities and after the application window closes I always look forward to getting out and visiting the projects once they have been set up.
“Together we can make Cheshire an even safer place to live, work and visit so don’t hesitate to share your ideas and make a bid to the fund.”
The Community Action Fund page will be updated with the criteria and application process when the fund reopens. For updates check back to the Commissioner’s website: https://www.cheshire-pcc.gov.uk/what-the-commissioner-does/community-funding/community-action-fund/
