PLANS for a new convenience store at Warrington have been given the green light – despite opposition from nearby residents.
The borough council’s planning committee has approved the scheme to convert an office which has been standing empty for two years in Battersby Lane into a shop.
Residents had claimed the development would cause parking problems, noise, litter and a potential increase in violence and criminal damage. They also claimed there were similar shops in the vicinity.
But planning officers said the property was suitable for a retail unit and on-street parking was available.
The amenities of nearby houses could be preserved by imposing appropriate conditions on opening hours, they said.

I totally agree with the residents of Battersby Lane. The shops on Holes Lane, Woolston cause absolute hell as far as parking’s concerned. All down to inconsideration of not only the users of the shops parking where they shouldn’t, but also the Coop delivery trucks.
They all use the residential area to park blocking driveways or as in the case of the Coop delivery truck, turn their wagons around in, which goes against the agreement the shop had with authorities when they originally set up business.
Another issue brought up about the delivery trucks is they are suppose to deliver after 8am, but there have been times when they turn up at 6:45am. Again going against original agreements from when the business was originally set up.
Despite complaining about this both to the shops and authorities, there has been no sign of the issues being resolved.
