THE inquest into the death of Warrington teenager Brianna Ghey was opened and adjourned this week, with large crowds expected at her funeral next week.
The 16-year-old Birchwood schoolgirl died from fatal stab wounds in Culcheth Linear Park on 11 February.
A boy from Leigh and a girl from Warrington, both aged 15, who cannot be identified due to their age, are awaiting trial charged with her murder with the case scheduled for July 10.
Meanwhile, large crowds are expected at Brianna’s pink-themed funeral this coming Wednesday at St Elphins Parish Church in Warrington at 2.45 pm.
Thousands of people attended candlelit vigils across the UK following her death. A Go Fund page set up to support her family and pay funeral costs has raised in excess of £113,000.
Earlier this week a brief two-minute hearing took place at Warrington Coroner’s Court coroner Jacqueline Devonish opened and adjourned the inquest into Brianna’s death, until after the trial and set a date for the pre-inquest hearing on August 17.
Meanwhile, a social media post about the funeral shared by Chester Pride said: “Funeral arrangements have been made for beautiful Brianna, people are welcome to attend. Please be advised that large crowds are expected and people wishing to attend are encouraged to proudly wear Pink.”
It also states that parking has been made available at Sainsbury’s opposite the church.
