FIRE crews rescued a man from his smoke-filled home at Warrington in the early hours of today.
The blaze involved food in a cooker at a property in Leicester Street, Bank Quay.
Fire crews arrived at the scene at about 1.30am to find the occupant had fallen asleep in a chair, leaving food cooking in the oven.
The food overheated and the kitchen was filled with smoke.
When fire crews arrived, the fire had burned itself out but they carried the man out of the smoke-filled property. Ambulance crews were also called, but the man did not require hospital treatment.
In a separate incident, about 4.30am today firefighters dealt with a blaze involving a wheelie bin left near the front door of a house in Shakespeare Grove, Longford, Warrington. They extinguished the fire using two hosereel jets, but not before damage was caused to the door.
A firefighter who attended the incident said it was not advisable to place wheeled bins close to doors as it risked the fire spreading and also blocked an escape route.
Shortly after the fire, crews were back in the area to deal with a skip fire and a wheelie bin fire in Keats Grove, just around the corner.
A firefighter said: “It appeared someone had walked through the estate setting fire to bins.”
