Child abducted text hoax

POLICE have moved swiftly to allay fears that a child has been abducted at Warrington today.
A text message has circulated in the town claiming a child has been abducted from the Cockhedge Shopping Centre.
In fact, police have no knowledge of such an incident and believe the message is a hoax.
A spokeswoman said: “We have been made aware of a text message being circulated in the Warrington area claiming a child had been abducted from the Cockhedge Centre.
“Cheshire Police has had no report of any such incident and believe that this is an urban myth.
“Parents are urged not to be alarmed by the information, which has not been corroborated by any official source.
“If anyone has any information about the origins of the text message they should contact police on 0845 458 000.”
