Minor injuries treatment available

PEOPLE in Warrington may not be aware of a special hospital unit where they can get treatment for minor injuries.
They can turn up at the Minor Injuries Unit at Halton General Hospital, which is run by a team of highly qualified nurse practitioners. They have expertise in treating minor injuries and provide treatment for injuries, such as sprains, fractures, infected wounds, bites and stings, cuts and grazes and minor head injuries.
The unit is open from 9am to 10pm every day, and on arrival patients are assessed by a trained nurse. They will decide whether the condition can be seen in the unit or can be redirected safely to an alternative health care provider such as a dentist, GP or A&E.
No appointment is needed, but the unit is not an alternative to going to the GP for a minor illness.
The unit has a paediatric area to treat children for minor injuries, but staff say that children with more serious injuries should be taken to Warrington’s A&E.
Conditions the unit cannot treat include chest pain, respiratory problems, abdominal pain, gynaecological problems and drug and alcohol problems.
The Minor Injuries Unit is located at Entrance 2 of Halton General Hospital – which is nearer to many parts of South Warrington than Warrington Hospital.
