Pet crematorium planned for Walton Lea

PLANS have been submitted to Warrington Borough Council for a shipping container to house a pet crematorium in the grounds of Walton Lea Crematorium.

The container would be to the east of the crematorium building to the rear of the rear service yard – well screened by the existing crematorium and also by the surrounding wooded area.
The application states there will be very limited, if any, public views of the site.
A single pet cremator, capable of dealing with seven cremations a day, would be sited inside the container, which would be 6.05m long, by 2.84 m wide and 2.69m high.
It is expected that during its first year there would be one pet cremation per day, about 10 per cent of pet deaths – dogs, cats and rabbits – in Warrington.

The existing lodge at the entrance to the main site would be used as a reception area, with parking provided in three bays in the existing car park.
Although the site is within the Green Belt, applicants Walton Lea Crematorium claim it will not be inappropriate in the Green Belt as it is within the grounds of the existing development and will have no impact on the openness of the Green Belt.
