IT may surprise most local motorists, but according to new research, 84 percent of Warrington’s roads are in good condition and do not require maintenance.

According to research carried out by the Bill Plant Motor School, this places the borough as the 17th best authority in the country for road maintenance.

The study has shown that Warrington has better-maintained roads than a number of neighbouring authorities, such as Cheshire West and Chester (31 percent), Salford (76 percent) and Manchester (80 percent).
Yet nearby Halton, with 89 percent of roads not requiring maintenance is said to be the second-best authority in the country.

Top of the table is Redcar and Cleveland with 95 percent of goods in good condition, according to the research.
The worst authorities for road maintenance are said to be Blackpool, Stockport, Derby, Stoke-on-Trent and Brighton and Hove, all of which have only six percent of roads in good condition.
The research was carried out on A Roads and Motorways.
