A young woman suffered a collapsed lung and facial injuries after being pushed downstairs at her Latchford home by her then-boyfriend.

Late the previous evening the victim had contacted the police saying that Shaun Byott was in a pub drunk and abusive and she feared he would “kick-off” when he got back to her house.

She said she did not want police to come round but just over two hours later, at 1.26 am on October 29, she again dialled 999 and made an allegation of assault, said Chris Hopkins, prosecuting.
Police arrived at her home in Latchford, Warrington, and found her face injured and bleeding. She had also suffered two broken rib and a punctured lung, which collapsed and a wound to the top of her ear.
Byott, aged 32, of Bridgewater Avenue, Latchford, Warrington pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm. A more serious charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent was dropped as the victim would not co-operate with the prosecution.

Liverpool Crown Court heard yesterday (Tue) that he pleaded guilty on the basis “following a brief struggle with the victim on the landing at the top of the stairs he accepts he unlawfully pushed her which consequently led to her falling down the stairs resulting in her injuries.”
Byott, of Lowerson Road, Norris Green, Liverpool, who has previous convictions including assault and possessing drugs, also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis.

Jim Smith, defending, said that Byott was sorry for the circumstances which led to the incident with his ex-partner.
“It had been spontaneous, impulsive and short-lived.”
Mr Smith said that Byott, who has four children by two partners, has struggled with anxiety, depression, anger issues and trauma.
Jailing Byott, who appeared via video link from prison, for nine months Judge David Potter told him, “You are responsible for the totality of the injuries sustained although I am sure you did not intend them to be inflicted at the point you pushed her.”
