Driving tests from pub car parks?

FUTURE learner drivers in Warrington could start their driving test from a hotel car park or council-owned site.
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) has announced that it is aiming to increase local services for learner drivers taking driving tests.
It is looking to trial a new method for testing drivers which could see candidates beginning their test at a building owned by the council or a hotel car park. Council officers are preparing a list of suitable sites.
The news was welcomed by David Mowat, (pictured) MP for Warrington South, who has previously raised the matter in Parliament.
He said: “The last Labour Government took the ridiculous decision to scrap the popular and well used driving test centre in Warrington based on an over-zealous interpretation of an EU Directive. It should never have happened in the first place.
“I understand that the DSA is now looking at reinstating services in some parts of the country, possibly including Warrington. This doesn’t necessarily mean the reopening of the old test centre, but it could mean that some form of test centre service will begin operating in Warrington once again”
Cllr Paul Campbell said that he had also campaigned against the closure of the centre.
He said: “Local Instructors saw their business disappear and local learners saw their pass rates fall as they were forced to travel longer distances to drive on unfamiliar roads.”
