It's compost awareness week!

THE eleventh annual international Compost Awareness Week (CAW) opens tomorrow (Sunday) – and Warrington people can get involved.
Borough council chiefs want to involve residents by promoting the environmental benefits of home composting and showcasing the great results that can be achieved by using peat-free composts containing recycled material.
The theme of the events taking place will be a “pass it on” concept, which aims to revive community spirit and encourage those already composting or growing their own vegetables to pass on their knowledge and skills to friends, family and neighbours.
Andy Cutts, the council’s waste minimisation and recycling manager said: “Households in this country throw away around four million tonnes of waste every year that could have been composted. More than 30 per cent of the average household bin can be composted and although one third of householders already compost at home, we want even more people to get involved.”
During the week, WBC are staging a series of “composting events” including a Compost Awareness road show at Walton Hall on Friday May 6 from 1pm to 4pm while a compost information stand will be available at Alexandra Park, Stockton Heath on Saturday May 7 from 9am to 1pm.
