FIREFIGHTERS carried a man to safety after a blaze at a flat in Warrington last night.
The fire was in Grasmere Avenue, Orford and was spotted by neighbours who heard a smoke alarm sounding at 11.15pm.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus broke into the property and found a man lying unconscious. They carried him to safety and gave him oxygen therapy until ambulance crews arrived and took him to hospital.
The cause of the fire was a microwave oven that had been left unattended. But it had burned itself out by the time crews reached the scene.
Fire crews also dealt with grassfires at Lyons Lane, Appleton and Grasmere Avenue, Orford, yesterday.
