Police issue warning after bogus gasman gains entry to property

POLICE have issued a warning after a bogus gasman gained entry into a property in the Poplars & Hulme area of Orford, Warrington.

Local police received a report that there has been a male knocking on doors in the Sandy Lane West area telling residents that a check needs to be completed inside the property.

The unknown male stated he was from a gas company and was then allowed into the address. No one was harmed and nothing was taken but Police have issued a few tips to be aware of if someone knocks on your door.

– Ask for identification
– Ask them who they work for and why they are there
– Keep doors locked even if you’re inside your property
– Ring the company to confirm if they have reps in the area.
– Don’t let them give you a phone number, look on the website yourself and obtain it.
– Put a “No Cold Callers” sign up
– Don’t buy something on the door
– Don’t worry about say NO!

Suspicious activity can be reported via 101 or 999 in an emergency.
